Our Relief Society ward theme for 2011 is Doctrine and Covenants 88:119. It says,
"Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God."
Only the home can compare to the Temple in sacredness. President Monson said, "We are responsible for the home we build. we must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. The thoughts we think, the deeds we do, the lives we live influence not only the success of our earthly journey; they mark the way to our eternal goals."
As women and mothers we are primarily responsible for building the atmosphere in our home. What can we do to make our homes more like temples? Have respect and love for each other, no yelling - use soft, kind voices and clean language, use only words of encouragement, rid home of any unclean movies, books, or music, have regular prayer, scripture study, Family home evening, limit use of technology, have pictures of Christ, good music invites the Spirit, be patient with each other.
The scriptures teach us that being organized is a godlike trait. The Lord asks us to do things in order, to organize ourselves. Sister Marie Ricks taught that our time is limited so that we can choose. Limited time allows us to exercise our agency. We need to prioritize and do the most important things first.
President Harold B. Lee emphasized that "the most important of the Lord's work that you will ever do will be the work you do within the walls of your own home."
