Recap of Lesson 10..The Scriptures

Scriptures are an anchor in today's world. They give us truth and clarity. Doctrine and Covenants 68:4 says, "And whatsoever they shall speak when moved upon by the Holy Ghost shall be scripture, shall be the will of the Lord, shall be the mind of the Lord, shall be the word of the Lord, shall be the voice of the Lord, and the power of God unto salvation. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints accepts four books as scripture: 1- The Bible: The Old Testament tells of the coming of the Savior, the New Testament tells of the life of the Savior. 2 - The Book of Mormon: A sacred book of scripture of people who lived in the Americas from about 2,000 B.C. to A.D. 400. Tells of the visit of Jesus Christ soon after He was resurrected. Joseph Smith said of the Book of Mormon, "It is the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book." 3 - The Doctrine and Covenants: A collection of modern revelation to prepare us for the Lord's coming. 4 - The Pearl of Great Price: Contains the book of Moses, the book of Abraham, and some inspired writings of Joseph Smith. Clarifies doctrine and teachings from the Bible and gives added information about the creation of the earth. Other scripture: Ensign, conference, and patriarchal blessings. Blessings from studying the scriptures include: answers, knowledge, comfort, gratitude, feeling the spirit, and understanding. Scriptures are direction to get us back home. We should make the scriptures a matter of great importance in our life. 1- schedule time to study 2- pray before study 3- search as we read 4- ponder what we read 5- relate 6- apply to our life.
